Joint Technical Committee on International Standardization of Quantum Technologies Held at AIST’s Tokyo Waterfront
—Promoting Quantum Technology Standardization Discussions as the Host Country—

The National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) held the third international meeting of the joint technical committee "IEC/ISO JTC 3 – Quantum technologies", organized by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, from May 26 to May 29, 2025. AIST hosted this meeting together with the Quantum Strategic industry Alliance for Revolution(Q-STAR), the Japanese National Mirror Committee for JTC 3, with the Japanese Standards Association (JSA) as a supporter. Approximately 70 quantum technology experts from 16 countries (about 120 experts from 24 countries including online participants) participated in four days of discussions aimed at the standardization of quantum technologies.

AIST's contributions at this meeting will serve as a foundation for Japan to actively advance rule-making in quantum technology standardization. This initiative is expected to lead to new technological developments and the creation of markets in the accelerating industrialization of quantum technologies.
