AIST employs students with excellent R&D skills as AIST research assistants (contract employees).
The employed graduate students can participate in high social need research and development projects conducted by AIST and use the research results in their thesis.
Conditions of Employment / Treatment
- It applies to those who are graduate students at the start of employment (excluding mature graduate students).
- Hours of work per day are 7 hours and 45 minutes (1 hour break).

* AIST Research Assistant is a contract employee of AIST, therefore their research results and intellectual property belong to AIST.
* A commuter allowance will be provided according to the regulations.
Application Requirements
The following conditions must be met to apply as an AIST Research Assistant.
- Be enrolled in graduate school and have graduate student status during the proposed period of employment (Research students do not qualify).
- Obtain approval from his/her school’s academic advisor to be supervised by AIST researchers.
- Do not fall under (a), (b), and (c) below during the period of employment.
(a) Those who have received fellowships, etc., and are not allowed to work because of their obligation to devote themselves to their studies (research) under the said fellowship.
(Example: International students sponsored by the government, etc.)
(b) Those who are employed by another institution or company and are not allowed to work outside the institution.
(Example: Mature students, etc.)
(c) Those who are employed by other institutions and are engaged in research there.
(Example: Those employed under Research Assistant Program at other institutions, mature students, etc.)
However, if the work at the other institution is research assistance or educational work, it is possible to hire as RA.
(Example: University Teaching Assistant (TA), etc.)
