AIST and Universal Quantum has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the development of a truly scalable trapped-ion quantum computing solution in collaboration with Japan’s quantum ecosystem.

On March 6, 2025, the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) announced that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Universal Quantum to strengthen their collaboration towards the industrialization of quantum technology.  Through this partnership, Universal Quantum and the Global Research and Development Center for Business by Quantum-AI Technology (G-QuAT) will discuss the possibility of providing scalable quantum compute power, develop complex quantum applications, and jointly advance the underlying subsystems necessary for large-scale quantum computing. The collaboration also aims to contribute to the growth of Japan’s international quantum ecosystem, strengthening its position as a global leader in quantum technology.

Strengthening the collaboration between the two institutions is expected to lead to new technological developments and market creation in the continuing acceleration of the industrialization of quantum technology.
