The Geological Survey of Japan (GSJ) has developed a comprehensive sharing system of Asian geoscience data among the member countries of the Coordinating Committee for Geoscience Programmes in East and Southeast Asia (CCOP).

Geological surveys in the CCOP member countries publish a large number of geological data, but most of them are paper based, therefore it is difficult to share the geological information among the Asian countries. In 2015, the Geological Survey of Japan launched a project to promote the digitization of geological information, which is published by the geological survey in each country and to share the information in an international standard format (https://ccop-gsi.org/main/).

This project has four purposes: (1) sharing geological information, (2) providing geological information to society, (3) international standardization, (4) improving the skills of staff in each country. This project guided geological information digitization and archiving, and construct a comprehensive database of geoscience information. Through this project, geoscience information, such as geological disaster, environment and natural resources, is made highly accessible.

In the future, the project team plans to further process and share more data, enhance their quality, improve the functionality of the system, and enhance the capabilities of staff in various countries by holding workshops.
