The 7th RD20 (Research and Development 20 for Clean Energy Technologies) Conference will be held from Monday, September 29 to Friday, October 3, 2025, in Tsukuba City, Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan.
The RD20 Conference has been held annually since 2019 under Japan’s leadership. It brings together major energy technology research institutions from around the world to share research and development efforts, best practices, and explore possibilities for international collaboration in the field of clean energy.
Last year’s 6th Conference was the first to be held outside Japan and took place at The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), an RD20 member institution in India. In October of the same year, the RD20 Tokyo Symposium 2024 was also held in Japan, highlighting technologies, human resource development, and capacity building related to carbon neutrality.
This year's 7th Conference will be held in Tsukuba City, Japan, and has been officially recognized by the Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition as a “Theme Weeks Connect”—an official offsite program of Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai. The conference is part of “SDGs+Beyond Future Society for Life,” one of eight official theme weeks of Expo 2025. The conference information is also available on the official Theme Week website. The conference will feature a diverse five-day program, including public sessions such as parts of the Leaders Session and the Technical Session.
