On Wednesday, July 5th, Masayoshi Yoshino, Minister for Reconstruction, toured the Fukushima Renewable Energy Institute, AIST in Koriyama City, Fukushima Prefecture.
President Ryoji Chubachi started the tour by greeting Minister Yoshino, and was followed by Vice-President Tetsuhiko Kobayashi, who gave an outline of AIST, and Director-General Masaru Nakaiwa who gave an outline of FREA.
Following these formalities, Minister Yoshino proceeded to tour the institute itself, and was told about the products undergoing prototype development through the Program for Promoting Technologies Invented by Industry in Disaster Areas in Tohoku* by two local companies (Kunimine Industries Co., Ltd. and Sanno Co., Ltd.). Next, Hirohide Furutani, Director of the Renewable Energy Research Center, explained various research themes in the Renewable Energy Demonstration Field and the Energy Management Building. Finally, Minister Yoshino viewed the Smart System Research Facility, where we conduct tests and evaluations of large power conditioners.
*Program for Promoting Technologies Invented by Industry in Disaster Areas in Tohoku: Provides support for commercializing renewable energy related technologies and know-how held by companies located in the three prefectures struck by the 2011 Tohoku Earthquake and Tsunami (Fukushima, Miyagi and Iwate prefectures).
