The Fukushima Renewable Energy Institute, AIST (FREA) held the 2017 Renewable Energy Workshop in Tohoku at the MALIOS Morioka Regional Exchange Center in Morioka City, Iwate Prefecture on October 24th, 2017, with the attendance of about 100 guests.
Toshimi Takigawa, Director of the Natural Resources, Energy and Environment Department of the Tohoku Bureau of Economy, Trade and Industry, METI, delivered a speech. Following this, Shinji Takasugi, President & CEO of Geosystem Co., Ltd., introduced his company’s collaboration with FREA as an example of initiatives by companies in the Tohoku Region. Additionally, Yasuhiro Hattori, representative from the Energy Agency Fukushima, reported on activities by the Fukushima Renewable Energy Research Association and initiatives for commercialization.
After this, a panel discussion was held which led to a lively debate on measures to further introduce and utilize renewable energy in the Tohoku Region, with key persons engaged in initiatives related to renewable energy serving as panelists.
